This is one of my mother and brothers favorites:

JUGASEDA

Start with large lima beans 1 or 2 lbs
1 med onion diced
Cover with water (warm)may need to add more towards last of cooking time
Garlic powder to season
Salt and pepper to season to taste
1 tsp sugar-stir in
Cut about 1/3 lb bacon-break apart slices and stir
Bring to low boil-turndown to simmer and cook beans till done(outer skin will fall off)
Perhaps 2-3 hours
Stir in between
Add 3/4 to 1 cup minute white rice and continue till rice done
add ketchup and or add 1 to 2 small cans tomato sauce while cooking
